DataCenter Move

We moved all of our equipment to a data center this week. The move went very well. We had everything up and running very quickly with the exception of our phone system.

This data center was an important step forward. We have been having issues with our current location with power and cooling. It worked well when we had only one server, but not so good as we started to grow the server room.

It is also in a very secure location that only allows authorized people and the location is under lock and key. I am very happy that we moved.

We are looking to expand our managed services offering and this was step one in that process. We are going to be rolling out some additional Managed Services offering in the coming months.

Virtualization

We are moving are servers to a data center next week. Some of the servers we have are over 3 years old and they need to be retired.

Since we have not had much time lately, I figured I would move them to our virtual environment. I used the vmware converter tool for the first machine and it went very quick. I was even able to reparation my hard drives and make them smaller.

The other machine I am using a Kaseya backup, which is relabeled Acronis. Acronis allows you to take a bare metal image and then restore that image to different hardware. I am working on that as we speak and it is not as smooth. We will see how that works out.

Overall the ability to migrate and move machines has become much easier, saving valuable time and also giving a nice disaster recovery option.
