Security Audting

How often do you check the security of your network.

I do security audits from time to time and a recent audit I made the suggestion to review the Domain Admins group to see who had access. This group is "God" in the Windows Active Directory world.

The Administrator was skeptical, but reviewed the group and discovered someone in that group that they should not have.

Anyway, it was a good example of why you should be reviewing the security on a monthly or at least a quarterly basis.

Simple Diaster Recovery

We have been using a nice product from a Company called Acronis . It is a created tool to create images of your servers. If the server fails, you can restore it using very quickly. You can also restore it to dissimilar hardware with the Universal restore option.

You can use this to image the server before a major patch or major work. You can also use it as an easy migration to a new server.

It can also help you virtualize your environment by taking physical servers and making them virtual. This can be integrated into your DR plan

The possibilities are endless with this product and it does a good job of saving your rear end in a disaster.
