Disaster Recovery Highlight – Unitrends Backup and Diaster Recovery System
This is the second post discussing solutions presented during our Security and Disaster Recovery Summit held at Miller Park.
Today I am going to focus on Unitrends. Unitrends makes a great Disaster Recovery product for backup and fast server recovery. Unitrends is a disk based backup system. It eliminates the need for tape. Unitrends also has support for over 40 different operating systems. This allows you to consolidate down to 1 backup system.
Unitrends has the ability to do what is called a bare-metal restore. A bare-metal restore is taking an operating system and moving it to different hardware. With most operating systems the drivers become an issues. Unitrends can substitute the drivers for you, making for a quick restore.
Unitrends can also store up to 3 months or more (depends on backup size) online, this makes for quick restores.
It also can backup up to 8 servers at a time, which can cut down on your backup window.
Finally, if you want to take data off site, you can either vault the data off site or you can use what is called an archive hard drive. Either way, you can get your data off site in case of a disaster.
